In 1999, Phil Lesh came back from a liver transplant with a vengeance. It really was the beginning of a viable “life after the Dead” which moved beyond the Furthur Festivals. On this tour he co-headlined with Bob Dylan, and each night they switched up who opened.

It was during the first of the 4 shows I caught on this tour that Dylan pulled out a surprise during his set by playing West LA Fadeaway with Phil on bass. There’s a lot of good stuff from this tour and I’ll get to some more later, but this was the kickoff from my point of view, so without further adieu – here it is:
